The Practice of Showing Up

“Reaching for the Light”

Resilience isn’t loud, it’s the quiet decision to begin

Nature’s resilience amazes me, especially during spring. In a single week, we’ve had winter, spring, and summer—temperatures ranging from 16 to 90 degrees. I struggle to adjust to those shifts, yet the spring plants and bulbs continue to emerge. Even with tattered leaves and hesitant blooms, they keep reaching toward the light, opening themselves to the warmth of each changing day.

No matter how difficult a situation is, whether in life or in creating art, nature teaches resilience. It offers a path of slowly gravitating toward the possibility of a beautiful outcome, no matter the chaos or uncertainty that presents itself. This feels especially true for me lately. I can see the potential for creating, but I’m having trouble navigating the chaos of the world, the many ideas in my head, and the lack of energy to create.

So, like flowers, I don’t give up. I begin slowly, allowing my creative energy to emerge through doing.  By going into my studio, working with my hands, stitching small pieces, and seeing what unfolds. It becomes both a gentle push forward and a surrender to the flow of creativity.  I let the process guide me. No pressure to finish, just a willingness to show up.

Internal Exploration

Dance with the Imagination!

Thinking Outside the Box

I am finding out that approaching what I do with a different twist allows me to see the beauty around me and what I create in a beautiful new light.  This does not mean totally changing what I do, it just means bringing different elements into the picture, for example...

Wind of Change

It is that time of year when change is evident as a new season arrives.  Where I live it is fall, and looking out the window, I see trees transforming from green to vibrant yellow, oranges and reds, and it is beautiful, but at the same time it reminds me that life is...
