Beauty Along the Way

A personal reflection on nature, creativity, and finding beauty along the way.

It is amazing how much emotion is woven into the experience of being an artist. Even after all these years, creating and sharing my work can leave me feeling introspective and vulnerable, but it can also bring an unexpected sense of empowerment.

The introspection comes as I contemplate whether I am making art that is true to my heart. Through art, I have developed a deeper connection to nature and the beauty that surrounds me. Over time, that connection has become something I rely on, especially when I am confronted by the heartache and pain in the world. Nature does not take that sadness away, but it reminds me that beauty still exists beside it. Creating from what I see and feel in nature has become one way for me to hold on to that reminder.

To live with beauty requires us to notice what is beautiful in the moment and bring it to memory every time sadness arrives at our doorstep. Perhaps beauty does not ask us to ignore what is painful but reminds us that pain is not all there is.

Vulnerability comes in trusting my own creative voice. Nature offers inspiration, but what emerges through my hands is shaped by what I notice, what moves me, and what I choose to bring forward for someone else to experience.

There is something empowering in realizing that I can choose what I bring forward through my art. I cannot change the heartache in the world, but I can share what moves me, the colors, textures, and quiet moments in nature that remind me there is still so much beauty around us. And perhaps, in sharing what I see, I can encourage someone else to stop and notice it too.

As I have been writing these thoughts, I realize they have also found their way into “Meander.”  I did not begin this piece with the intention of making a statement about beauty, but that is what emerged. The pathway winding through the wildflowers feels like an invitation to slow down, wander for a moment, and notice the beauty along the way. Creating art continues to teach me that beauty is always there, but we have to be willing to notice it.

Dance with the Imagination!

Wind of Change

Thinking Outside the Box

I am finding out that approaching what I do with a different twist allows me to see the beauty around me and what I create in a beautiful new light.  This does not mean totally changing what I do, it just means bringing different elements into the picture, for example...

A Whole New Light

It is always a bit frightening to share a part of who you are as an artist especially when you feel like you are not being the best creative version of yourself self that you can be. I was feeling stuck in a creative slump when I wrote the last newsletter.  As most of...

The Act of Creating

Internal Exploration

Exploration has been a core theme in my art, especially when it comes to exploring the outside world and all it has to offer in inspiring my next creation.  Since I have been in school, exploration is taking me to look on creating art through the lens of technique,...
