Beneath the Blue

A mixed-media textile work that celebrates the vibrant beauty and extraordinary diversity of life within a coral reef. Colorful fish created from fabric move through an abundant underwater world filled with dimensional coral, reef plants, and marine forms constructed from lace, beads, and a variety of specialty fibers. Brilliant shades of red, orange, purple, yellow, blue, and green create a rich tapestry of color and texture, while clusters of beads form intricate coral and add another layer of dimension and detail to the reef. The layering of fibers, lace, beads, and textile elements creates a strong sense of depth, while the fish bring movement to the composition as they appear to weave in and around the flourishing reef. Subtle touches of paint and mixed-media detail enrich the surrounding water and marine life, resulting in a piece that feels vibrant, immersive, and alive with the color, movement, and wonder of the underwater world.
