It is that time of year when change is evident as a new season arrives. Where I live it is fall, and looking out the window, I see trees transforming from green to vibrant yellow, oranges and reds, and it is beautiful, but at the same time it reminds me that life is always changing.
When I was younger, I didn’t like change, I found it disconcerting. As I got older, I came to understand that change was going to be a constant in life, and I became more at peace with the fact that change is inevitable. As life changes around me, I must not give into fear but look at it as an opportunity for growing, learning and finding love through it.
I realize that the wind of change brings a shift in how I see the familiar. As the wind blows the leaves off the trees, their shapes appear leaving a uniquely beautiful bare structure of bark and limb. Maybe change happens to stir up my life, so that I expand my way of seeing, as allow the hidden beauty of what I thought I knew to be revealed.
Change brings a different perspective, and as an artist and a person, this is how I expand my understanding, knowledge and experience. I need to allow myself to see beyond the surface to the intricate beauty of nature, and within myself. I find that focusing on beauty, instead of the havoc of change, allows the pleasures that beauty offers to be expressed through art and life.
