“Bursting into Bloom”
One of the things that I enjoy when I watch a movie is the cinematography, the art of photography and visual storytelling, if done creatively can stay with you long after the movie is over. There are scenes in a few movies that have captivated me in this way, but with each spring one particular scene of the 1985 movie “Anne of Green Gables” comes to mind.
Anne, had just arrived for the first time in Avonlea located in Prince Edward Island, Canada. She was chatting away while riding in a buggy with her hopeful adoptive parent. They were on the way to meet her new home when the road weaved through a spectacular array of blossoming cherry trees. She abruptly stops talking and takes in the awesome beauty of the trees sparkling from rays of sunshine gleaming through. Of course, this is how I remember it, but it left a profound sense of awe within me.
When spring arrives here in the Midwest the world awakens into multi-color flowering plants and trees. The trees come into bloom in their pinks, whites, purples and pinkish reds, and it is like the earth transforms into something magical. On beautiful spring days like these, I can no longer be in the confines of my home, and an exploration ensues.
On one of those explorations around our community, my husband and I drove through the Southern Illinois University East campus, where we came upon a field full of flowering trees! I felt like jumping up and down like a little girl in excitement, and quickly made him stop the car. I jump out, and while keeping some sense of composure, briskly walked toward the trees, just so I could be among them. In that instant, I was having my own experience of being among the beauty of the blossoming trees.
Art helps me express moments that I come across in life that cause me to stop, and really take a closer look at the beauty that nature offers. It is at these times that I am inspired to recreate the essence of what I felt and saw. In my featured art piece, I hope you experience the beauty of what I encapsulated on that day as I saw all the trees that were bursting into bloom!
