Creating from a Place of Knowing

“Summer’s Jewel”

Art has always been my happy place, but it’s taken years of learning and growth to feel truly confident in it. This year, something shifted. I began creating from a place of knowing. All those years of learning brought me to a place of simply “doing” and in that doing, I found unimaginable joy.

For the first time, creating felt easy, something I’d never experienced. I’ve always had to work at my art, questioning myself constantly, with that familiar nagging feeling that I could do better, that I needed to learn more.

But this year, I began creating with courage. I’m still not sure what changed.  Maybe all those years of learning finally convinced my brain that I could create without doubting myself. Or maybe it’s that my work is finally coming out the way I imagine it. Whatever the reason, I stopped judging each step of the process and started simply enjoying the act of creating.

What do you mean by ‘place of knowing’? Knowing what?

      Susan,

I am sorry for the delay in responding to your message; to answer your question the place of knowing is all the knowledge that I acquired up to this point in my life, and this year it felt like I did not struggle with my processes I just created from that place of knowing my craft. I guess I could have clarified that better, but I still learning to express myself in writing. Thank you for your question, and I hope you have a wonderful holiday. Ana Sumner

You came from a place of intuition, your soul, bless you. Your work has always been most beautiful, you just didn’t realize it.

        Sew on!

Internal Exploration

Exploration has been a core theme in my art, especially when it comes to exploring the outside world and all it has to offer in inspiring my next creation.  Since I have been in school, exploration is taking me to look on creating art through the lens of technique,...

Dance with the Imagination!

Creating art is a dance with the imagination!  You haven’t heard from me in a while, because I’ve been in a deeply creative space, dancing with endless possibilities of expression. It’s a place where joy overflows. In a world where chaos is so prevalent, we all need a...

Wind of Change

It is that time of year when change is evident as a new season arrives.  Where I live it is fall, and looking out the window, I see trees transforming from green to vibrant yellow, oranges and reds, and it is beautiful, but at the same time it reminds me that life is...

A Whole New Light

It is always a bit frightening to share a part of who you are as an artist especially when you feel like you are not being the best creative version of yourself self that you can be. I was feeling stuck in a creative slump when I wrote the last newsletter.  As most of...
